We provide permits for the angler who wishes to fish day or night, from a simple day permit, to a week long affair.

Resident carp run to eighteen pounds, and there are some lovely roach, rudd and eels for the non-dedicated carp angler. The lake is 2 acres in size and in excess of twelve foot deep in places.

Shear Water Lake, Crockerton (Nr Warminster)

Extending to some 37 acres, Shear Water Lake offers some of the finest fishing available in Britain, in a site of outstanding beauty. Completely surrounded by mature trees and bushes, Shear Water is without doubt one of the most scenic fishing spots in the country and its massive head of quality fish makes it extremely popular.

The Estate took Shear Water back in hand in the late 1980’s and the fishery has now developed into one of the country’s top venues. The Lake holds a big head of carp from 2lb to 26lb providing excellent sport for the specimen and pleasure anglers. The lake also boasts a huge head of bream which produce bags regularly over 50lb. Quality roach, perch, tench and rudd are in profusion making Shear Water a truly mixed fishery. In 2002, 15 new carp were introduced to the lake, weighing in at 15-18lbs. A yearly stocking programme of young, fast growing carp is also in place.

The lake is 9 acres, and roughly a rectangle, normally making the whole lake fishable.

The row of central islands gives all anglers many islands, bars and features to fish to,and provides a good degree of privacy from the eyes of anglers on the opposite bank.

Depths range from 2.5 to 10 feet, and bars and channels have been created at the shallow end.

The water is snag and weed free, contains NO nuisance catfish, and very few crayfish.

The South side of the lake is bordered by our own dense mature wood, which provides shade during the hottest part of the day, ideal for those who don't like too much heat & sun.
The whole of the lake is bordered by mature trees, shrubs & hedgerows, with many overhanging the water. These are obviously magnets for fish, giving excellent margin fishing and opportunities for stalking, which is allowed, providing other anglers are not disturbed.

This bait has HAULED many fish for me over the years and at the Paylakes here in the states its a well kept secret ;) So Shhhhh!

24 oz of Bulger Wheat
24 oz of Wheat Germ
16 oz of Kayro Syrup
8 oz Jar of Food Grade Molasses
16 oz jar of Chocolate Syrup
8 oz Bottle of Dr Pepper or Mr Pibb Soft Drink

Add the 16 oz Jar of Kayro Syrup to a pot , then add an 8 oz jar of Food grade Molasses to the same pot. Then Add 16 oz Of Chocolate Syrup to the pot , then add an 8 oz Bottle of Dr Pepper or Mr Pibb Soft Drink to the same pot. bring this whole mix to almost a boil all the while stiring.

Add the 24 oz of the Bulger Wheat , and the 24 oz of Wheat germ into a bucket ( I use a 2 1/2 Gallon bucket to mix this whole deal.) Once the wet has Almost been brought to a boil ( 10 minutes or so ) add the Wet Ingreediants ( Slowly and Stir ) to the Dry and QUICKLY stir ( mix ) with a large wooden spoon ( or what ever you have ). Once you get the the ingreediants all Mixxed well You should...

Llyn Gweryd (12½ acres: 5 Ha), a natural spring fed lake, provides excellent carp fishing. It is now regarded as one of the leading Carp waters in Wales and is regularly reported in the angling press. Rob Hughes recently featured Llyn Gweryd on the Carp Show on Sky (see photo right). It has also provided a finalist to the Angling Times Nash Masters competition each year.
Llyn Gweryd contains good size carp:
Mirror Carp to 27 lbs
Common Carp to 26lbs
Ghost Carp to 20 lbs
There is a very large head of Carp in the lake and at least 15 over 20lbs plus 50 high doubles, 200 low doubles and numerous singles. The average weight for a Carp caught is currently 13 lbs.

Lake John was John Shinkins dream come true - a fishing lake of his own, which he created from nothing.

But the week after he stocked it, John died in a boating accident aged 45 and never got the chance to fish it!

But all his hard work was not in vain, because Colin Bartlett took over and made the lake into an attractive and popular fishery with something for everyone, from matchmen, and occasional anglers to specimen hunters.

John's ashes are scattered on the central island, So his memory lives on through the Lakes name.

The main three acre lake, is fully stocked with carp, both mirror and common. Golden rudd and tench are also in residence, plus some very big eels. The largest mirror carp caught to date is 32lb, whilst the best common carp is 27lb. Five smaller ponds hold many large carp, and are for the exclusive use of our cabin guests. The wild carp, some almost black in colour, take-off at a phenomenal rate, so keep an eye on your rod at all times.
